Carpet Installation in Baltimore, MD
Carpet is the floor that makes a room feel like home. It is soft, quiet, and warm underfoot, which is exactly what you want in bedrooms, on stairs, and in family rooms. At CSE Flooring & Interiors, I install plush, frieze, berber and stain-resistant carpet across Baltimore and about 50 miles around Parkville, and I stretch and seam every yard myself.
Carpet also does something hard floors cannot. It absorbs sound, which matters in multi-level homes, condos and finished basements. It softens a fall, which families with young kids and pets appreciate. And modern stain-resistant fibers are far easier to care for than the carpet you grew up with.

Who It Is Right For
Carpet is the right choice for bedrooms, where you want warmth and quiet first thing in the morning. It is ideal for stairs, where it cushions each step and adds safety. And it works well in family rooms and finished basements where comfort underfoot matters more than waterproofing.
If you want a quieter home, especially in a condo, townhome or multi-level house, carpet absorbs the footsteps and voices that hard floors echo.
Who It Is Not Right For
Carpet is not the right choice for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways or anywhere with regular spills and water. Even stain-resistant carpet is not waterproof, and persistent moisture leads to odors and padding problems.
It is also not ideal for homes with severe allergies that are triggered by dust, since carpet holds particles that hard floors do not. For those rooms, we will look at hard surface options instead.
What the Install Looks Like, Done by the Owner
From the first measure to the final walkthrough, one person handles your floor. No crew handoffs, no subcontractors you never met.
Every carpet job starts with an in-home measure. I measure the rooms, check the subfloor, and note the layout of seams, transitions and stairs. Then I help you choose the fiber, style and pad that fit how the room is used.
On install day, I remove the old flooring if needed, clean and prep the subfloor, and replace tack strip where the carpet will stretch. The pad goes down first, then the carpet is power-stretched tight and seamed cleanly so it lies flat and stays tight over time.
Stairs take more detail than flat floor space. Each step is wrapped and tucked individually, and I pay close attention to the nosing so the carpet stays secure and looks clean. Transitions to hard floors get the right strip so there is no trip hazard.
I do a final walkthrough with you to check the seams, the stretch, the stairs and the transitions before I pack up.
What Baltimore Area Homes Mean for This Floor
Many Baltimore area homes have finished basements, and carpet is a popular choice there. But basements in Maryland can have damp concrete slabs, so I check the slab for moisture before any carpet goes down. If there is a moisture concern, we talk about the right pad, a moisture barrier, or a different floor for that space.
In older rowhomes and postwar houses, subfloors can be uneven and old tack strip may need replacing. I prep the subfloor so the carpet stretches and wears evenly. If your home has old 9 inch by 9 inch floor tiles underneath, have them tested for asbestos before removal; this is honest advice, not a service I offer.
Types and Options
The choices within this category, and how they change the look, the durability and the price.
Plush and texture
A smooth, even surface that looks formal and feels soft. Great for bedrooms and living rooms with moderate traffic.
Frieze and twisted
A tightly twisted yarn that hides footprints and vacuum marks. A durable, casual look that works well in family rooms.
Berber and loop
A looped construction that is tough and resists tracking. Good for high-traffic areas, though pet claws can snag loops.
Stain-resistant fibers
Modern synthetic fibers resist stains and are easier to clean than older carpet. A strong choice for homes with kids and pets.
What Affects the Cost
I do not publish prices, because every job is measured and quoted by hand. These are the factors that shape your estimate.
The fiber and style you choose, with plush and berber sitting at different price points.
The quality and thickness of the padding underneath, which affects both comfort and longevity.
Stairs, which require more labor per step than flat floor space.
Removal and haul-away of old carpet and pad.
Subfloor prep and tack strip replacement in older homes.
Room layout and the number of seams, since more cuts and seams add labor.
Carpet Installation Questions, Answered
How long does carpet installation take?+
Most rooms are done in a day, with stairs and large or multi-room jobs taking longer. I give you a clear timeline after the in-home measure.
Do I need to move my furniture?+
Furniture moving can be arranged. Mention it when you request your estimate so it is included in the plan.
Can you install carpet over a basement concrete slab?+
Only after a moisture check. Maryland basements can be damp, so I test the slab first. If moisture is a concern, we discuss a moisture barrier, the right pad, or a floor better suited to the space.
How do you handle carpet on stairs?+
Each step is wrapped and tucked individually, with close attention to the nosing so the carpet stays secure. Stairs take more labor than flat floor space and are measured as part of your job.
What padding should I choose?+
Padding affects comfort, insulation and how long the carpet lasts. A denser pad extends carpet life, while a softer pad adds cushion. I help you balance comfort and durability for each room.
Is carpet good for pets?+
Stain-resistant and tight-loop styles handle pets well. Keep in mind that looped carpet can snag on claws, and no carpet is waterproof. For homes with accident-prone pets, we will talk about whether a hard surface is a better fit for some rooms.
Will I see seams in my carpet?+
Seams are placed carefully and kept out of high-traffic sightlines, but they can be visible in some lighting, especially with plush carpet. I seam cleanly and walk you through the layout before install.
